Our Trim Carpentry Process

A precise 5-step approach from style consultation to painted finish — all in one project with no need to coordinate separate contractors.

1

Free In-Home Estimate & Style Consultation

We visit your home, discuss trim profile options, review photos of styles you like, and measure every room. You receive a written, itemized quote covering installation and optional painting.

2

Material Selection (MDF, Wood, or PVC)

We help you choose the right material for each application. MDF for painted interior trim, solid wood for stained profiles, and PVC for bathrooms and exterior applications. Materials are sourced and delivered to the job site.

3

Precise Measuring & Cutting

All trim is measured room by room and cut with compound miter saws for precise inside and outside corner angles. Crown molding corners are coped (not mitered) for long-lasting, gap-free joints as the home settles.

4

Installation with Adhesive & Nails

Trim is secured with construction adhesive and finish nails driven with a pneumatic nailer. All nail holes are countersunk below the surface. Pieces are checked for level, plumb, and alignment as we go.

5

Caulking, Filling & Paint-Ready Finish

All joints, nail holes, and gaps at walls and ceilings are filled with paintable caulk and spackling. Surfaces are sanded smooth and left in prime condition for painting — which we can complete in the same project visit.

Carpentry & Trim FAQ

How much does crown molding cost in Atlanta?
Crown molding installation in Atlanta costs $4–$12 per linear foot installed, depending on profile size and ceiling height. A typical single room with 40 linear feet runs $160–$480 installed. A full home with 400 linear feet of crown molding (6–8 rooms) typically costs $1,600–$4,800 installed and ready for paint — or fully painted if you add our same-project painting service. Call (404) 771-3671 for a free in-home estimate.
What trim materials do you use?
We work with MDF (medium-density fiberboard), finger-jointed and solid wood, and PVC trim. MDF is the most popular choice for painted interior trim — smooth, dimensionally stable, and takes paint beautifully. Solid wood is ideal for stained applications. PVC is best for bathrooms, exterior soffits, and high-moisture areas where wood would swell or rot. We'll recommend the right material for each application during the estimate.
Can you paint the trim in the same project?
Yes — and it's one of our most popular service combinations. Custom Premier Painting installs trim and paints it in the same project at no extra mobilization charge. Our painters caulk nail holes, fill seams, sand smooth, prime all new trim, and apply 2 finish coats as part of the same visit. This ensures consistent finish quality and eliminates the hassle of scheduling a second contractor.
How long does trim installation take?
Crown molding in a single room takes 2–4 hours to install. A full home crown molding project (6–8 rooms) typically takes 2–3 days including painting. Wainscoting installation takes 1–2 days per room depending on complexity. Door casing for a full home (10–15 doors) takes 1–2 days. We provide a written project timeline before starting every job.
What is the difference between MDF and wood trim?
MDF is an engineered wood product with a perfectly smooth, uniform surface that takes paint better than solid wood — no grain showing through paint, no knots, and less seasonal expansion and contraction. It is the industry standard for interior painted trim and costs less than solid wood. Solid wood is preferable when trim will be stained, for exterior applications in dry areas, or when replicating historic millwork. Both materials are cut and installed the same way by our carpentry team.
Do you install wainscoting?
Yes. We install traditional raised-panel wainscoting, flat-panel wainscoting, board and batten, beadboard, and picture-frame molding. Wainscoting typically runs 32–36 inches high and is most popular in dining rooms, hallways, home offices, and master bedrooms. Installation costs $8–$18 per sq ft including materials, installation, caulking, and primer coat — fully ready for your finish paint color.
